Hope is the Thing with Feathers

Hi everyone! It's me, Tonya, and I'm here to share an art journal page I created using a junk mail envelope as a base for my page. I used some of the awesome collage images that are on the AlteredPages site along with some of their other great products which I have listed below. Also we are cross promoting  Leaky Shed's assortment of chipboard dies this month too.

I started out with a business size (#10) envelope as my base for my page. I had a ton of left over scraps from mini banners I had cut out.  I hated to throw away all of those cool wavy scraps, so I decided to use them on my page. I started by applying decoupage medium to the page and then covering it with the leftover scraps. Once I got it the way I wanted it I applied more decoupage medium  over the top of the scraps to seal it so to speak. Once dry, I used a number stamp down the side of the page. Then I used an empty toilet roll and coke lid dipped  in turquoise and white paint to create random circles over the page.  I then dry brushed paint along the edges of the page.  Once it was dry, I sprayed it with Perfect Pearls Mist to give it a shimmery look.

The Leaky Shed birdcage was painted, then I inked over it with two different colors of chalk ink. The letter from collage sheet Vintage ATC Sheet 1  was "distressed" by inking the edges,  then I attached the letter and the birdcage to the page.  The bird and roses  were fussy cut, glued to the corner of the cage and topped off with  Stickles, sequins and a dew drop.

The sentiment  was stamped on the 1724 Collage Background Greencut apart and adhered to the page and finished off with dew drops and a tiny butterfly punch which was added on top of a butterfly I fussy cut from Vintage ATC Sheet 1.

Be sure to stop by the Altered Pages site and Leaky Shed to see all their wonderful assortment of crafty goodness.

Handy Tip for Artists, Recyclers and Neat Freaks! I have a follow-up to the Citra-Sol method for creating fabulous background pages and collages.   I bought a big bag of navel oranges and realized I had the ingredients to make my own solvent!   Simply take a clean glass jar, peel the rind from the oranges and place all the rind/peels, without the pulp (tangerines, oranges, navels) into the jar.   Pour enough vinegar over the peels to cover them.    Allow the jar to sit for a week or two and VOILA!     You have made your own solvent for literally pennies.    You will notice the liquid getting a bit thicker than the plain vinegar and it does not smell bad!!! I now have a  HUGE jar on the window sill!       Be careful and only use this after testing on a safe spot.
