Mermaid Magic with Memento Markers

Hi Everyone!  It's Danie here today.  As you know this month we are teaming up with IMAGINE Crafts/Tsukineko so I have a little Mermaid Card to share that features the use of their Memento Markers in four ways.  Often we only think of using our Dye Ink based Markers for Coloring but they are much more versatile than that.

Supplies:
IMAGINE Crafts/Tsukineko Memento Markers Peanut Brittle, Nautical Blue and Pistachio, IMAGINE Crafts/Tsukineko Staz On Midi Blue Hawaii Ink.
Other: Pastel Pink Marker, Embossing Folder, Foam Dots.

1.  Memento Markers - Watercolor Wash
The background for my card was created using the Watercolor Wash Technique and an Embossing Folder.  Taking my three colors of Memento Markers I scribbled color onto a plastic sheet.  I then misted the color on the plastic with water before taking a piece of pale blue cardstock and laying and rubbing it across the surface of the plastic to pick up the color.

After I allowed this piece to dry I then embossed with my desired embossing folder.  Next I took a sponge which had some Staz On Mid Blue Hawaii Ink on it, and rubbed it across the raised surface to define the embossed design.

2.  Stamping with Memento Markers
For my main details of my card, I took the Nautical Blue Memento Marker and rubbed color across my Mermaid and Sea Shell Stamps to ink them up and stamped out these images onto white Cardstock.  Any areas that didn't stamp fully were touched up using the finer end of the Nautical Blue Memento Marker.  Memento Markers are perfect to use for stamping when you only want to ink up a particular area of a stamp or in my case today one or two stamps on a plate.  They are also great when you want to use more than one color together and ink up at the same time such as multicolor letters for word stamps.

3.  Coloring with Memento Markers
Once stamped I colored these images in using my other Memento Marker Colors except for the pink skin tones which were done using an Alcohol Based Marker.  Each image was cut out and I added gold glitter with a small amount of Nori Paste to the shells and to the mermaids tale.

4.  Inking Edges with Memento Markers
Before layering and adhering all the elements together I also used my Nautical Blue Memento Marker to ink all the edges of my papers and stamped elements simply by running the thicker tip around each edge.

Now putting it all together, my second layer is a piece of paper from the Glitz Unchartered Waters Collection which has been sponged with IMAGINE Crafts/Tsukineko Staz On Midi Hawaii Blue.  To this piece I have added some burlap and other embellishments such as the dew drops and small strip of G45 Paper with some Gel Medium.

Lastly my seashells were added and my Mermaid which was stuck on using some foam pop dots.  So there you have it a little Mermaid Magic with my Memento Markers.

Don't forget to pop back and visit each day this month as we team up with IMAGINE Crafts/Tsukineko for more wonderful and inky inspiration.

Handy Tip for Artists, Recyclers and Neat Freaks! I have a follow-up to the Citra-Sol method for creating fabulous background pages and collages.   I bought a big bag of navel oranges and realized I had the ingredients to make my own solvent!   Simply take a clean glass jar, peel the rind from the oranges and place all the rind/peels, without the pulp (tangerines, oranges, navels) into the jar.   Pour enough vinegar over the peels to cover them.    Allow the jar to sit for a week or two and VOILA!     You have made your own solvent for literally pennies.    You will notice the liquid getting a bit thicker than the plain vinegar and it does not smell bad!!! I now have a  HUGE jar on the window sill!       Be careful and only use this after testing on a safe spot.
