Random Takes and Mini Book Makes

Hi Everyone, it's Danie here today with a slightly random post which pretty much sums up my week.

When I first thought about what I was feature in my post I didn't think I had much .....but  I am always tiding up here and there in my craft room and finding bits and pieces I wanted to use and play with..... putting them aside, grabbing them out, mixing them up, you know how it works.......

A few collage sheets from Altered Pages had recently caught my eye.  One was the Bottle Cap Flowers Sheet that I received last Spring (September here in Australia) and the others were the Ephemera and Calendar ATCs May.

Bottle cap images are not just good for using with bottle caps, they can be used in a number of ways.  Here I have simply layered them beneath some clear cabochons and these are perfect to use as embellishments for your papercrafting projects.  Teaming simply with some coordinating ribbon makes a wonderful CAS Card for Mother's Day this Sunday, while adding magnets to the back of them makes a delightful floral set of magnets for use on the fridge or pin board.

I have also been working on a Pen Pal Swap Project which requires some little notes, tags or ATC's to be placed inside our main project (an envelope pocket mini book). From the Ephemera Collage Sheet the images of the Heart and the Hand had me thinking about Random Acts of Kindness, so I made a ATC with one of my Gelli Print Backgrounds which used the Swirly Garden Stencil from the Crafters Workshop. I stamped the word KINDNESS on the front and finished the rest of the quote (one of my favorites) on the back.  It reads Kindness - Comes in many Forms but always from the Heart.

My second ATC uses another Gelli Print Background and a delightful image from the May ATC Calendar Collage Sheet teamed with some bright paper scraps and another stamped quote.  It is said that those of us who are creative are so because we remain young at heart and still see things as we would do when we.were a child........hence my choice of image and quote for this one.......

Lastly is the Vintage Bird Mini Tag Pocket Book Kit I have put together for sale at Altered Pages.  I fell in love with the Vintage Bird Post Card Collage Sheet and teamed it with some Glitz Papers and some other Little Spring Birdies.

Gelatos, Seam Binding and Manilla Tags also feature in this book and I made a quick video to show just how easy it is to create the pages for this book.

Here's to 'letting what you love be what you do' this week.

  5. Isn't this wonderful, a showcase of work by a wonderful and diverse artist. Danie is preparing for her Fall/Winter season being in the southern hemisphere. Holidays there are opposite from what we celebrate in the US!

Handy Tip for Artists, Recyclers and Neat Freaks! I have a follow-up to the Citra-Sol method for creating fabulous background pages and collages.   I bought a big bag of navel oranges and realized I had the ingredients to make my own solvent!   Simply take a clean glass jar, peel the rind from the oranges and place all the rind/peels, without the pulp (tangerines, oranges, navels) into the jar.   Pour enough vinegar over the peels to cover them.    Allow the jar to sit for a week or two and VOILA!     You have made your own solvent for literally pennies.    You will notice the liquid getting a bit thicker than the plain vinegar and it does not smell bad!!! I now have a  HUGE jar on the window sill!       Be careful and only use this after testing on a safe spot.
