A Matchbox of Chocolates

Hi everyone, are we surviving this winter madness!!! Well, I am NOT a winter lover but at least I can say because of Ol' man winter I am getting some art accomplished!! I got to play around with some wonderful AP collage images, a little Sin City stamp and my Yasutomo water brush during this latest snowfall!! I soo enjoy these goodies especially my water brush. I have been using it for a while now, however I did not expect to use it the way I did!! But first before I tell you what I did, let me show you what I created!!

I created these one of a kind over sized Valentine matchboxes. I used some AP Collage images that I resized and fussy cut, papers I already had, ranger inks, Sin City butterfly stamp and various embellishments and my water brush.
I will let you in on a little secret at the bottom of the page so keep on reading!!

I had so much fun creating these sweet boxes and can't wait to give them to some very special people in my life on the ever popular day of love!! What great treats they would make for teachers, loved ones and your Bestie!!

Now, I bet you are wondering where the water brush came in? Well it was a total fluke!! Some of my bestest ideas come from my happy booboo's or forgetfulness!!  LOL.  You see, I needed to ink the edges of my art and had totally ran out of sponges, I had NO ink pads etc. "OH My" what is an artist to do. Ya,  I know you are thinking I could have just rub the edges across my ink pad but I got a little   picky about the amount of ink and the suppleness of the edges. So I thought Hmm, wonder what would happen if  I used the water brush? Well, I just had to try it. So, I filled my brush up with water and then dipped it onto my ranger ink pad ( for those who do not know these ink pads are water soluable), swiped up some ink blotted it on my paper to get just the right amount of ink onto my brush and using the very tip of the brush I swiped it against my edges.

See the edges of the little clown and the butterfly?

I also love the little butterfly stamp from Sin City. I stamped a couple images onto paper and then cut them out and attached them together for a dimensional effect

I totally had a great time creating these little boxes and trying out new ways of using my water brush. I was even able to find some Godiva chocolates on sale to fill them with!! YUMMY!!

Handy Tip for Artists, Recyclers and Neat Freaks! I have a follow-up to the Citra-Sol method for creating fabulous background pages and collages.   I bought a big bag of navel oranges and realized I had the ingredients to make my own solvent!   Simply take a clean glass jar, peel the rind from the oranges and place all the rind/peels, without the pulp (tangerines, oranges, navels) into the jar.   Pour enough vinegar over the peels to cover them.    Allow the jar to sit for a week or two and VOILA!     You have made your own solvent for literally pennies.    You will notice the liquid getting a bit thicker than the plain vinegar and it does not smell bad!!! I now have a  HUGE jar on the window sill!       Be careful and only use this after testing on a safe spot.
