Mixed Media Arting with Friends!

Happy Friday everyone!!! Remember this fun project that I did back in September of last year??? Well I gave this to a very special best friend of mine for a happy when I saw her later that month. it was her color! It produced such a buzz of excitement in her house that her soon-to-be 14 year old son proclaimed that he wanted to make these for his birthday party this winter! Since I love her kids as my own I was happy to share my skills and arty tools to throw a Mixed Media Arting Party!!!
Below is the fun we had! The boys had a great time and the girls got extra artsy fartsy! Enjoy!

This is the birthday boy's book! He loves all things Asian and expecially dragons! He layered on tissue, Asian inspired die cuts and mists to create this fabulous cover! Metallic pan pastels highlighted the features of his book!

His younger brother got into the mixed media groove with this great cover layered with tissue and dragon and sword diecuts! Initially he was going for an ALL RED look but decided a bit of orange and some gold chalk to bring out the dragon [and silver for the swords] would be alright!

Not to be outdone, Dad created his own Thor's hammer with some cardboard and string and added some celtic knot chipboard to the cover...dark manly mists and some metallic pan pastel gave a very leathery feel to a book that began as layered tissue!

My best friend is VERY artsy and took this opportunity to create a steampunky bee hive on the back cover with some tufts of flowers and on the front a geared up cheery blossom in a frame! Simply beautiful--and rather than just going with a mist of color, she often times hand painted elements with the dylusions ink and a brush!

And then there was my Fancy Pants, age 7. She never ceases to amaze me with her talent and eye for design. She mists like her momma though...we both love to watch those colors merge and blend! Of course she needed some sparkle with the gold and her back cover sports her name!

It was a great time getting inky, misty, painty with my friends! If you've never had that experience I totally recommend it! The camaraderie over art is something that you will not soon forget! Thank you for stopping by! I hope you enjoyed our inspiration!!

Handy Tip for Artists, Recyclers and Neat Freaks! I have a follow-up to the Citra-Sol method for creating fabulous background pages and collages.   I bought a big bag of navel oranges and realized I had the ingredients to make my own solvent!   Simply take a clean glass jar, peel the rind from the oranges and place all the rind/peels, without the pulp (tangerines, oranges, navels) into the jar.   Pour enough vinegar over the peels to cover them.    Allow the jar to sit for a week or two and VOILA!     You have made your own solvent for literally pennies.    You will notice the liquid getting a bit thicker than the plain vinegar and it does not smell bad!!! I now have a  HUGE jar on the window sill!       Be careful and only use this after testing on a safe spot.
