An Elephant Never Forgets

Aloha, Gia here to share a Father's Day card I made for my 5 year old to give to my husband this year. It references the common belief that elephant's have a good memory, something that my dear husband does NOT have thanks to diabetes. I used some of the supplies from the Spring 2013 Mailbox Muse kit Serengeti Sunrise.

I love to travel and have been on many different continents but not Africa (yet). With this kit and my love of creating I can experience adventure in my imagination!  This kit has an epic safari theme with images of exotic animals like giraffes, lions, zebra and my personal favorite- the elephants. The artwork in the images is by Karen Ward and is really special. As of the time I am writing this post these kits are still available on the Altered Pages sister site: Mailbox Muse

I also used some Happy Travels paper from Glitz Designs from the Altered Pages website. The heart map is from the Transparency Pack of the same line.

Here is the inside sentiment

To make the background texture I used the stencil included in the Mailbox Muse kit and some texture paste, which I then finished off with some gelato smudged on with my fingers! I am going through a phase of using this technique a lot.  Have you ordered your gelatos yet? They have to be one of the most versatile pigment media out there.

Once again, here's what you need:

1. Serengeti Sunrise kit from www.mailboxmuse.com and while you are there make sure to order the Summer kit (Alice's Utterly Mad Tea Party) or even better become a member and subscribe! The digital Altered Arts magazine is so worth it!

2. Happy Travels by Glitz Designs, 6 x 6 paper pad and Transparency Pack from Altered Pages under "Paper, Books, Tins, and Boards."

3. Design Memory Craft's Gelatos from Altered Pages, under "Tools."

Thanks for stopping by and until next time...

  2. GIA, love that you combined so many of the items to create a real one of a kind card! The stencil use was genius for a roughened texture just made for a guy!
My hubby is also diabetic and is funny, as each time he sees a rerun it's all new again!!!

Handy Tip for Artists, Recyclers and Neat Freaks! I have a follow-up to the Citra-Sol method for creating fabulous background pages and collages.   I bought a big bag of navel oranges and realized I had the ingredients to make my own solvent!   Simply take a clean glass jar, peel the rind from the oranges and place all the rind/peels, without the pulp (tangerines, oranges, navels) into the jar.   Pour enough vinegar over the peels to cover them.    Allow the jar to sit for a week or two and VOILA!     You have made your own solvent for literally pennies.    You will notice the liquid getting a bit thicker than the plain vinegar and it does not smell bad!!! I now have a  HUGE jar on the window sill!       Be careful and only use this after testing on a safe spot.
