AMAZING Splash Inks

You will wish you had Splash Inks all your life!

They are far more than just color or ink.  The properties are incredible and allow for so much creativity.

We will have a video for you soon but I wanted to show you some examples of simple yet dynamic effects you can achieve with Splash Inks.  Some of the examples have had blue painters tape used for a border.

Above you see the use of a stencil with Golden white acrylic mixed with Splash Inks and allowed to dry, the acrylic is heavy bodied and adds dimension.   After dry, a sponge with used with a mixture of  pure Splash  Inks in yellow & magenta over top of the acrylic which then acts as a resist.  Some gold MICA MIXER* was then added to the remaining paint mixture and used to shade the perimeter.  Also added with the sponge was glitter with a watery wash of white glue in some areas.   *You can add liquid pearlescent mixers too

This technique is fascinating and provides incredible results so easily!   A blend of blue, yellow, black Splash Inks and gold pearlescent was mixed with a brayer.   Then the paint was rolled onto a gloss paper and allowed to dry (a heat gun is fine to use)  After it was mostly dry, a rubber stamp was misted with water and placed on top of the dried ink.   Pressed firmly and then removed you could see some faint images.  BUT the magic occurs when you take a dry towel and simply wipe the base paint.   Where the wet stamp made contact, the paint was now is removed and you see the full stamp image.  A  reversal of stamping!

The Birds were also a stencil.   Blue, red and black inks were mixed with gel medium, applied with a palette knife, stencil removed  and allowed to dry.   After it was dry, a mixture of red & yellow SPLASH INKS were used with a sponge to create a colorful yet subtle background.   THEN a bit of glitter was dusted on the branches for interest.   Voila!

This may be my favorite!   It is simply a mixture of blue, magenta & black Splash Inks and white pearlescent added.   This time I allowed the ink colors to stay a bit separated while brayering.  This allowed the variations of color throughout, as you can see some purplish and pinkish colors peek through.   The wet stamp technique was again used with a lovely handwriting stamp.   I think the brayer lines and color variation add so much visually and texturally.

Handy Tip for Artists, Recyclers and Neat Freaks! I have a follow-up to the Citra-Sol method for creating fabulous background pages and collages.   I bought a big bag of navel oranges and realized I had the ingredients to make my own solvent!   Simply take a clean glass jar, peel the rind from the oranges and place all the rind/peels, without the pulp (tangerines, oranges, navels) into the jar.   Pour enough vinegar over the peels to cover them.    Allow the jar to sit for a week or two and VOILA!     You have made your own solvent for literally pennies.    You will notice the liquid getting a bit thicker than the plain vinegar and it does not smell bad!!! I now have a  HUGE jar on the window sill!       Be careful and only use this after testing on a safe spot.
