Canvas Albums - Helpful Hints!

Today I wanted to share one of my favorite products that Altered Pages offers....

Yes I know, everyone loves the "idea" of a canvas album but few people actually use them.  WELL, today I decided to share what I like to do with them and get you to using them instead of just admiring them!

Now of course you can sew them, paint them, ink them but most people shy away from them because... well, because they aren't a paper product and they don't know how to adhere items to the pages.

Since these books only have 6 pages (front cover, 4 inside pages and back cover) I like to cut my canvas albums apart.  That way I can insert chipboard or other bits between the canvas pages.

After I have my pages cut apart the first thing I usually do is to color them with my favorite mist inks.....

After they are dry it's time to begin working on the book it's self....
I use Aleene's Quick Dry Tacky Glue.
This glue has great hold power, isn't watery like some liquid glues and dries clear and flexible.

To adhere my paper, chipboard, cardstock, embellishments, etc. I place my canvas page on a sheet of scrap paper, apply a thick layer of glue to the paper then press it into the canvas.   After your paper or other item has been glued to the canvas, immediately peel it away from the scrap paper.  You will notice that some of the glue has pushed it's way through the canvas.  No worries...remember, this glue dries clear and flexible.  You won't even see it once it is dry!

You can use this glue to assemble your entire book.
I then like to bind my book with book rings/eyelets.

If you're interested in additional photos of this process you can stop on by my blog - Canvas Album Pt I or stop by Ink Stains - Canvas Beach Album  to view my completed album and enter for a chance to win!

Handy Tip for Artists, Recyclers and Neat Freaks! I have a follow-up to the Citra-Sol method for creating fabulous background pages and collages.   I bought a big bag of navel oranges and realized I had the ingredients to make my own solvent!   Simply take a clean glass jar, peel the rind from the oranges and place all the rind/peels, without the pulp (tangerines, oranges, navels) into the jar.   Pour enough vinegar over the peels to cover them.    Allow the jar to sit for a week or two and VOILA!     You have made your own solvent for literally pennies.    You will notice the liquid getting a bit thicker than the plain vinegar and it does not smell bad!!! I now have a  HUGE jar on the window sill!       Be careful and only use this after testing on a safe spot.
