The Alchemist's Vault

For the month of August Altered Pages  is gearing up for  Halloween, my most FAVORITE! So, today I invite you to step inside and see the treasures of the Alhchemist's Vault ... Canvas panel with vintage text that has been given more  depth with a coffee wash.  Next, a layer of ink and coffee stained gauze or cheese cloth.   Then, vintage postal collage images torn and inked to add distress then dry fit to plan the layout.   More dry fitting of additional collage images...evil man in the moon, gothic royal skull and a raven selfishly kept in a gold guilded cage.  All images adhered.  Shadowing added to all components for more depth and interest.    A bit of glitter and guilding for just a bit of whimsy... I hope you enjoyed your quik peek into the mind of magic! Stephanie Supply List -  Skeletal Remains collage sheet Ravens Take Flight collage sheet French Postage collage sheet V...

The art of Charles Gesmar

Are you familiar with the art of Charles Gesmar?  I wasn't. Until I found a collage sheet full of his poster art at Altered Pages, that is.  He was a French costumer and poster artist for most of the stars of the Paris Music Hall  and his artwork was big in the 1920's. Today I'm using Gesmar's poster art of Marion Forde on two cards.  I love this playful image.  Because it is filled with pink, I started with the Saucy 6x6 paper bundle by Authentique.  The pink floral background really stood out to me.  While I was flipping through the pad I found the "Domestic Goddess" saying and knew I had to use it.  There are also pink papers in the Fabulous paper bundle.  The individual 6x6 sheets of Fairy Tale Rose would also be cool. I liked this pink Bazzill Edge paper border to bring the two floral pieces together and a pink Dew Drop gave it a touch of shine. And since I had printed two of the collage sheets, I made a sec...

But darling what if you fly?

Hi everyone Danie here with you today - this month is all about showcasing the wonderful digital images sold at Altered Pages.  What I love about Digital Collage Sheets is that with a simple editing program on your computer you can resize, recolor and shape them however you desire to create your project, you may even like to crop and cut out parts of the image and combine them with other digital elements and create a whole new piece of digital art. I have been working closely with images of the feminine of late and have been particularly drawn to the colors of the rainbow and goddesses with wings this past week or so, so I was feeling really called to play with a beautiful image fitting into this type of theme from the Lovely Ladies Collage Sheet. I started by cropping my desired image and saving her to a new file which I then resized and printed out onto a piece of A4 Paper so I could play in one of my larger journals. I simply added random color to the page for my backg...

Bookmaking with Collages

The versatility of collages used for art and crafts is extensive. I created a book and will use collages  for the interior pages...the construction was heavy chipboard and kraft paper, plus decor papers. We also have corrugated Kraft Paper, also in white corrugated adhesive backed for beautiful book covers or interiors. For closures, I used our fabulous seam binding attached with  Super Adhesive Tape . For a fun touch - since this is a book for old time photos I used clock charms to hold the seam binding on the front. The tied seam binding neatly holds the waterfall pages in place.  I will use alternating old sepia and black and white photos with interesting collages for the finished Book. Finishing a Work in Progress aka WIP

Today, I am actually finishing a WIP!!!   I know you know the feeling...does that always feel great, or what?!   I am continuing on with that cute little  PaperClay  pot that was part of a previous post...remember that gold gilded incense burner that I  created a couple weeks ago?  Well, if you missed those projects, check out the beginning processes  HERE.    I am very happy with how the incense burner turned out.  I have even had a friend ask where I bought it so they could pick one up.  It was pretty satisfying telling them that it was a DIY and that they could easily make one of their own.  Here is a quick reminder of that piece.  Now, continuing on with the cute little clay pot.   I start by sanding it with my easy to use  sanding sponge  to give it a bit of a smoother finish.   I then decoupaged pretty floral tissue for the background and then a few beautiful g...

Collages provide a jump start for your mixed media

Collages can help create so many things. Above you see a banner that spells out WINE plus some lovely collage images as the finishing touches. ATC's are the perfect collage  partner!  For these I used mini cupcake papers, washi tape plus papers. ATC rounds are a fun new way to trade.     TEXT pages make the perfect base for collages. Collage images can become dimensional too! PLEASE visit and review our thousands of collages to find the inspiration for YOUR mixed media pieces. www.AlteredPages.com See ya! Jean
