I am in love with FABER-CASTELL Products

Have you played with Faber-Castell Gelatos or Watercolor Pencils? If not, you are missing out! 

While at CHA I visited the Faber-Castell booth and created this distressed box at their Make & Take.

We took a small box and distressed it with a couple of stencils and Gelatos, added a little dimension using a pen to outline with a stencil as a guide, then stamped on it. Finally, added a bit of text and a wooden bird that was tinted with Gelatos.

Faber-Castell sponsored a workshop at CHA taught by Donna Downey.  I couldn't pass up the opportunity to take her class and I wanted to learn more about Gelatos   

Above is an example of what we did at the workshop.

We received a canvas board that was primed with gesso and had a image of the Eiffel Tower on it. We had do an image transfer by wetting the paper and removing as much of it as possible without taking removing the image. Then Donna asked us to choose night colors or day and scribble on our boards with the Gelatos.  YIKES, this is what I came to learn... SCRIBBLE! With a little water on a paint brush gently blend the Gelatos, what a beautiful watercolor effect! 

Here Donna is talking about how to add dimension the the Eiffel Tower on our canvases.  There were different techniques depending if we did a night scene or daytime.

Stephanie Moore Siatta  did a night scene and I did a day scene. (The funny thing is we didn't meet until after the workshop and didn't have any idea what the other was doing!)  

In the night scene Donna explained the use of yellow and white Gelatos to create light, then add shadows.  In the day scene we add dimension by enhancing the lines of the Eiffel Tower with Faber-Castell watercolor pencils.

Here is my first canvas from the Faber-Castell Watercolor Kit. It is really easy, color with the pencils and use a little water to blend them. Be sure not to use TOO much water or the colors will bleed.  I still have work to do on this canvas and will share later when it is completed.
