Hello again! Today I am doing a simple traditional stencil technique to use on a journal cover. SUPPLIES: Journal substrate : This one is from my stash but there are a lot to choose from at AlteredPages.com Stencil : I used Balzer Designs 12 x 12 stencil "Trendy Images" from The Crafters Workshop Paper adhesive scissors Acrylic Paint White Gel pen or acrylic paint liner Embellishments Ribbon I have to admit, ever since I got this stencil, I knew I was going to use the eye image. Not that the others aren't cool, but that eye!!!  So, I had this little book cover and I don't collect autographs so I wanted to make it either into a junk journal or art journal. Well, I still haven't decided which, but I had to re-cover it to start.  Found this awesome hand-made paper in my stash and adhered it to the front of the cover. Inspired by the recent trend in mixed media of altering embellishments with paints and mists to create a unified assemblage, I attempted this on a small scale with pieces of ephemera and left over embellishments from my AlteredPages.com stash. I stenciled artist spackle with the new Crafter's Companion Stencils and stamped into spackle with Mailbox Muse wings. I then layered pieces of torn book paper, canceled postage, German Scrap, trim, chipboard, mulberry flowers, and frayed fabric. I coated this layer with Gesso and after drying this layer, I misted Copper Maya Mist and homemade spritzes to form a base layer. After drying this, I adhered metal pieces, plastic shamrocks, paper embossed butterfly and fabric ribbon roses with E6000 and then once again applied gesso. I then applied a final layer of mists and heated the ATC to dry. Hi there! Becky here today to share something new to me...   Mail Art   (sort of!) I say "sort of" because it's not the traditional Mail Art that you would trade with someone in a swap, like ATC's. But rather a box that I completely decorated as part of a submission to Somerset Studios! Jean recently added Crafters Workshops to the store and I couldn't wait to get some and play with all the different ways you can use them. I started with these below--please know this is merely the surface! For stencil play you will need:  stencils [ I used the 6" Cubist Stencil ] Eco Green Acrylic Paint Artist Spackle and card to spread Paris Trunk Ink brush With one stencil and few different mediums you can attain several looks! Inky stencil Spackled stencil Spackled Stencil with light heating Spackled Stencil with heavy heating Stipple Brushed paint Paint squeegee'd in to Stencil and then heated--to make bubbles After paint is squeegee'd in, turn over the stencil and make a print of the painted side.  All these different looks are achieved with just a few different supplies and the same stencil. Hi Everyone it's Danie here today with my first post here on the Altered Pages Blog.  So I thought I'd start with a little creation that gives you a bit of an insight to me! It's an ATC that says it all as I do have trouble with these four letter words - Cook, Wash, Iron and Dust.  They are all things I avoid doing until I really cannot anymore, because I'd much rather be in my craft room playing with the fun Altered Pages Collages sheets such as the one I have used for my project today.  Lucky for me I married a Chef and he is very supportive of my crafting.   I love making ATC's, bright colors and creating my own backgrounds.   Today's ATC Background is a quick watercolor wash with some sponged ink stenciling done with a piece of punchinella.
