Life is a Beach!

We love the beach!   What better represents fun days in sun and sand but a Beachball.   We had to use this one for a fun project and a Father's Day gift! Eddie loves the beach and adores his grandkids! (yes more than me!) The beachball comes fully sanded and ready to paint or add papers on the three individual pieces.   I added Chalk Paint color Inheritance to the base of the ball.    Next was choosing a Dixie Belle paint in colors of Gulf or Plum Crazy for the segments, finally choosing Gulf.  Did you know Dixie Belle is non-toxic and made in the USA, all natural, no animal testing and no fumes or harsh chemicals.  You can order it at  DIY Design Studio .  I used a Dixie Belle chip brush and it only takes one coat in most all cases. I trimmed around the ball in a funky paper.  The center disc was covered with the same paper.  When you do not have a punch to get perfect round edges, use ...

Upcycling Saves Waste and OUR Planet Earth

IT'S JEAN TODAY, HOPING YOUR WEDNESDAY IS FANTASTIC! Old kitchen cabinet doors or drawer fronts become treasures for your home or for gifting.    Holidays or memories, seasonal fun decor for all year long.  Make Monogram gifts too! Make a coffee table tray from an old kitchen door.... no crabs allowed!  (created by Amy Joyce Mehring) Fill any holes with Dixie Belle Mud and sand them, base paint is Dixie Belle Butter Creamy. Paint the door panels with Dixie Belle Ocean and a mix of 1 part Palmetto and 4 parts Butter Creamy OR Kudzu mixed with Butter Creamy 2 to 1 part.   Use a loose technique wiping the paint heavier in some areas, lighter in others.   After it is all dry, use Grunge Glaze and wipe it all over the tray.   Allow the glaze to be heavier in the crevices.     THEN add your stencil image , choose from a great selection at AlteredPages .    You can use paint OR glaze for the...

A Day at the Beach Mini Album

Hi everyone! It's me,  Tonya  and I am here to share a mini journal I created for an upcoming trip to the beach. I wanted something that was small and wouldn't take up much space and that I could use my Instax printer to print off 2"x3" photos.   You will need a 6"x9" clasp envelope as the base or cover for your mini album. I removed the reinforcement around the hole and the clasp. I used a page from the  Vintage Text Pages pack ,  Before Bikinis collage sheet ,  1821D Vintage Words collage sheet,  235  Summer Words collage sheet,  Uncharted Waters 8"x8" Glitz Paper Pad  which I used thru out the mini along with  Security Paper  to create the outside cover and inside pages. I measured the spine of the mini and found the center which I then punched a tiny hole. Then I cut 10 inches of 3mm elastic trim, folded in half and run thru and tie off on the inside cover. Next I measure an inch in on one end and...

Life's a Beach Tin w/ Beach Rules! ATC's - IMAGINE Crafts/Tsukineko

As you know this month the Altered Pages Design Team is fortunate enough to be co-hosting a month full of fun with IMAGINE Crafts /Tsukineko combining the wonderful products of both companies into our creations. For my final project of the month I wanted to share  a fun box full of ATC's which are in fact:  BEACH RULES! The tin was inked initially with Mellow Mint Opaque StazOn ink to which I applied a layer of GlazOn. I then added Blue Hawaii, Midnight Blue and Spiced Chai StazOn Midi's.  The fun group of friends at the beach image is from the collage sheet On The Beach  .  I added a bit of wadded glassine envelope, micro beads a tiny star fish all adhered using Vintage Creative Medium. When you flip the lid open you'll find the...Beach Rules ATC's!  Inside the cover of the tin is an image of a wooden arrow pointing the way to the swimming hole.   But this is also Beach Rule  #1 - Swim Often! Beach Rules...
