Spooky Upcycle

Today I have for you a quick upcycle  with big results!   Today's project began as an ornate ceramic frame.   The focal point of the frame was a 3x3 inch tumbled marble tile.  The tile originally had an old world, Tuscan style wine label on it.   It was beautiful, but it just did not match my decor any longer.  I adored the piece and could never part with it...so I gave it new life as Halloween decor.  Technically, I can give it new life again and again with any theme collage images from Altered Pages .   The frame itself is about a 11x11 inch square and is a couple inches deep.  So it is a great size, not too big, not too small.  And, it looks great sitting on a thick wrought iron easle.  I first used water diluted  Tacky glue to add a scrap of torn  vintage music sheet .  I then aged the music sheet a tad more using  sepia toned ink   & my Ranger Blending...

The Raven - One Spooky Bird

The Raven - musings from Edgar Allen Poe has become long associated with all things Spooky so I thought the Altered Pages Collage Sheets Quoth the Raven, Nevermore and the Edgar Allen Poe would be perfect choices for this month's Design Team Theme - Make it Spooky. The first line of The Raven sets the tone - Once upon a midnight dreary. I had some old postcards on hand so took to them with some Gesso and Black Paint before adding a touch of color with some paint and stencils. On the computer I typed and printed out some quotes from 'The Raven' and added these with my chosen images to my postcard backgrounds. So now I have three postcards ready to send a spooky greeting to friends.

A few greeting cards

Hi, it's Robin here today with a some greeting cards to share.  I've been in a Halloween mood lately.  The decorations are going up all over our neighborhood and in our office, too.  The days are cooler and some of the leaves have already started to change.  The first card I'd like to share today is  a Halloween card, and features an image from the Ravens Take Flight sheet.  I combined this trio of birds with black paper  from my scrap bin and some paper flowers .  Simple, but the black card makes the ravens really stand out. My second card is a 6x6 Steampunk collage.  Several different colors of StazOn ink were added to the cardstock using a sponge sweeper .  Some were sponged on through stencils.  The color was very dark and I added a white wash over the top.  A white gelato with a water brush toned down the colors just enough!  Images were added from various collage sheets (see the list below...

This altered coffin trick is a real treat

Make someone's Halloween extra boo-ti-ful by giving them treats in an altered container. Hi, it's  Betsy Skagen here, bringing you a spook-tac-ular way to make altered Halloween treat containers.   First, use paint or a marker to color the inside of your treat coffin.   Then fussy cut the  Macabre Page Image  to fit one side of the coffin. Cut out the center oval.   Trace the right inside base of the coffin onto orange cardstock and cut out. (I suggest making a pattern if you are going to make more than one of these treat boxes). Adhere orange cardstock to right side base.  Cut a long strip of black cardstock. The width of the strip should equal the depth of one side of the coffin. Form an oval by adhering the two ends of the strip. Make the oval slightly larger than the oval you cut out of the Macabre image.   Secure the oval strip to the back of the Macabre image and place the entire thing in the...
