More Halloween Fun in my Journal

IT'S FRIGHTENING! Hi everyone Danie here, today I pulled out my journal to play once more.  I love getting messy and it's the process more than the end result that I love.  So with Halloween in mind once more I started thinking dark and covered my journal pages with a layer of black paint. I had some clean up sheets from the last time I used some stencils on my desk so decided to put these to good use and while my black paint was still wet, tore these stenciled sheets into strips and stuck them down.  My glue and my paint mixed together and glazed these pieces as I smoothed out any air bubbles from the sticking down process. Next I took some white paint and a stencil and added some more detail, before brayering over the wet white paint to added further interest and pattern to the background. I choose to randomly brayer purple and orange paint across the page for my next layer. And to finish the background some more stenciling with Green...

Tag ATC combo

I wanted to go pretty this month.   And since we could just "run with it".... ATC's are one of my favorite things to make as I love to collage. First I found some images I liked. One was a lady image from my old stash and the other was a gorgeous rose tag which I loved the colour of. The rose tag is from the collage sheet  Floral tags  which has lots and lots of gorgeous printable tags. I adore them all. I decided to use some scraps of paper I had too. I painted the ATC base in a rust color and then painted an oval scrap I had in the same color. I scrunched up another scrap of white paper I had left over and then distressed with brown ink then scrunched again and repeated. The effect is lovely and I cut to fit the ATC and adhered it with glue.  I already had the images printed so I cut the lady into an oval shape, applying the rose tag onto the scrunched background. To finish it off I used some watercolour paint to enhance the lady image and ...

More Bright ATC's

Continuing to play with Bright Colors and my love for randomness and inky mess, I grabbed out my Circle Gel Press Plate and the three primary colors of Paint - Red, Blue and Yellow. I applied the paint in sections onto my plate and proceeded to randomly and not fully lay my pre-cut ATC Cards onto the plate, I then picked them up and picked up more paint in different areas, until most of the paint was removed from the plate. I then took some gold paint and a bottle cap and pressing the cap into the paint then applied some circles of gold to the plate which I then once more randomly pressed my ATC Cards into. Next I took the 6 x 6 Heart and Arrow Stencil by the Crafter's Workshop and with black paint and a stencil brush added the stencil design randomly across my ATC's. I had some let over butterflies and bird collage images from previous projects so I decided to use these and then played around with placement. A bit fun and funky! And I sti...

Stencils make great ATCs too!

I am playing with Stencils to make wonderful bases for ATCs. APRIL is ATC month and we have gifts for YOU.  Share your ATCs on our FACEBOOK PAGE  to be included in our weekly giveaways. We all have those papers in our stash that are not really favorites and this is a great way to use them up.             The idea is to add layer upon layer of stencils and paints.  Move the stencil around for more designs.   Use 6 x 6 or 12 x 12 or ??   I cut my papers into strips and then ATC sizes once they were dry using my Fiskars cutter.   I added Prills with glue to create an undulating pattern which helped create my framed ATC triptych shown above.   I was pretty pleased with the results.  Truth be told, that is a dollar store frame, what a find! I kept going with more papers to create a stash of papers I can use for ATC's or any project.      You...

Playing with Paint and Stencils Part 2

Early this month I played with some Paint and Stencils which is my favorite thing to do in my art journals.  Sometimes I journal just for fun and for the art aspect, other times more for the personal release of emotions and then other times for the recording of relevant facts, sometimes it is a bit of both.  My project I shared with you started out with fun in mind but in deciding what to add to the background it now has become more of a record of relevant facts. The warm tones reminded me of the outback landscapes here in Australia in the Desert which then turned into thoughts of Egypt and then I noticed that some of my details of my stenciling looked like the Egyptian Ankh Symbol.  I then remembered my Egyptian Horoscope which I read at the start of each year in a magazine I buy.  I had last years magazine lying around so took some images from this along with the details of my personal horoscope to complete my page in my journal. This is how it...
