Artistic Sundays

Yesterday was an open house at Shemer Art Center.   We got to see many artists demoing their Art techniques and creations.   It was very diverse, from jewelry created from raw metals, oil painting, pencil drawing, life portraits and more. I have a new Art Hero, his name is John Erwin and he coincidentally is the Shemer Artist of the Year (understandably so!!)  The pieces you see here are all from his mind, no images or still life or landscapes in front of him.    He was amazing to watch.   He works in other mediums but watercolor is his forte.   John is a second grade teacher and art is his passion and 'hobby'.   You can see how his students must love him and INSPIRE HIM, he is totally free in his art! John showed us how he uses India Ink (yep the good old black stuff) and a razor to sketch out a base for a watercolor piece.   He sometimes does this and other times not.   He did a very loose floral for us too and he did it with total abandon! John let us al

Playing with New Things.

Hi everyone it's Danie here with you all today.  Have you seen the latest Paper ranges from Glitz  which are available at Altered Pages?  If you haven't you really don't know what you are missing.   These papers have a wonderful distressed vintage feel  with a little bit of the fresh and funky thrown in. Anyhow this week I started playing with some new quote stamps and I decided to also make a little Inspirational Mini Accordion Album  with my favorite ones.   I chose some papers from the Laced Grace Paper Collection from Glitz,  along with a coordinating color in the Coredinations Cardstock to make my album covers and the off cuts I have used for tags. My album is not finished but here's a sneak peak at it so far.   I have used the natural Flat Jute simply tied at the front to keep it together.  I have added some color to my neutral colored papers using my Niji Pearlescent Water Colors . This Accordion Album is

Color Me Green Challenge on Altered Challenges!

I've been wanting to play with altering dominoes and trying my hand with soldering. For my challenge project I decided to combine the two with the Green Challenge going on over at the Challenge Blog. I began by marking the back of a domino where I wanted to drill holes. I began with my pointy file and drilled a shallow hole as a pilot for my hand drill.  Next I hand-drilled the 4 holes that I had marked on my domino. Once I had a domino with holes, I wired the bale onto the top of the domino leaving room to solder my metal rose and wings onto it. Next I added loops across the bottom of the domino to attached dangles of charms from my stash. I colored the domino with my alcohol markers and added a sticker from one of the vintage sticker sheets from Altered Pages and applied Fast Finish Decoupage over the top.  A sheer green ribbon finished the necklace.  I hope you enjoyed my project. Be sure to enter the Challenge by August 30th to enter to win!

I hope you will take some time to "browse" through all of the amazing fall theme kits that are NEW this week by many of my design team mates. There are so many to choose from to get you in the mood for some spooky Halloween artsy fun!    I decided to name this project "Voodoo, Hoodoo, and Magic" after the name of the Andy Skinner stencil it features called "Voodoo." You will receive a chipboard ring-bound book, stencil, collages, gold leafing, gelatos, and more!  If you have not already acquired one,

Do you travel with supplies to create with?

When you travel do take your creativity with you?   I love to have things to work on during down time when I travel.  I was visiting my father, who is an architect, this past July. One day I sort of took over his drafting table!  Just in the planning stages of my cards in these pictures! Some of the supplies in my travel kit: Altered Pages Collage Images Craft Clock Leaky Shed Gears Glitz Paper Pack Stella Wink Scissor Ribbon Brads Ink Stamps  Small emblishments Dew Drops Foam dots  Tacky Glue Glue Stick During my visit, my father came up with few things that I could use in my card making. Here is a box of stamps that he had used to create landscapes on his drawings. Below I used one of the stamps to create the background on my ballon card. The Ballon on this card is from the Altered Pages Collage Sheet Steampunked Machines.  Also from Altered Pages is a gear from Leaky Shed Watch Parts .   The collage image on the second card is
