A Very Vintage Valentine

Hello everyone!  I have a special post for you today.  We are still enjoying our DecoArt products this month, and I even found some uses for them on my Valentine's Day card.  So, you card makers out there, don't be afraid to delve into the fabulous world of mixed media, because I am about to show you a fraction of what you can do with DecoArt Media products.  Of course, my card would be nothing without the help of Altered Pages products, too! I used an aqua 4-/4" x 5-1/2" card for my base, and adhered a print paper slightly smaller to the front. I also distressed the paper with Scattered Straw to help it match the image.   I resized and printed out two of the image from the  Always in Love  collage sheet.  I adhered the whole image with DecoArt Matted Medium to a piece of thick chipboard and trimmed to size.  I edged the piece with DecoArt Patina Green antiquing cream.  But wait, there's more.   I added Interference DecoArtGold fluid acrylic along

Hello Young Lovers

We're just about at the end of January and our month-long partnership with Deco Arts media products.  My post today is just me playing with some embellishments.  First, a vintage image from one of the Young Lovers Valentine collages .   I wanted to use this plain chipboard frame and white cardstock and I didn't have anything in my collection already the right color.  The frame and back panel were painted with Deco Art Flesh Tone acrylic paint to match the collage art.   I'm no stranger to altering embellishments.  I use painted and inked paper flowers and chipboard all the time.  Today I thought you might like to see some of the other items that I have painted using my Deco Art acrylic paints. Brads and swords - plain and painted, side by side. So go out and play with your paint.  It doesn't always have to be a journal or canvas!  Just have fun.  I hope you'll come back again to see what other fun projects the Altered Pages Des

Meet the Altered Pages Designers: LYNEEN JESSE

Altered Pages has a very talented Design Team  I am proud to say I have the opportunity to work with a group of amazing artists!!! today I introduce me...   Lyneen Jesse   I live in Bremerton, WA with my awesome and very understanding husband of fourteen years and our terribly spoiled schnauzer Lilly.   Working full-time, I also teaches classes at the local scrapbook store and create in my home studio, that tends to wander throughout the house at times! I enjoy stamping, scrapbooking, altered art, collecting vintage treasures and photography. I started creating at a very young age, mom had my sisters, brother and me making hand made gifts from a very young age. My father is an architect, I would doodle buildings with columns like those in his BIG books.  Give me an idea and I will come up with a way to create it. My studio is filled with everything imaginable from hardware store finds to the stacks of paper, flowers and chipboard I have “collected” over the

DecoArt Mixed Media Book Project - Part 2

Welcome back to Part 2 of my mixed media art book with Altered Pages  and  DecoArt , our January sponsor.  Today, I am going to show you how to make the book pages, also known a signatures, for inside the book.  I will even begin to decorate them for you, hopefully to inspire and get your creative juices flowing.  But first, I want to show you how to put the two bookscovers together.  Unfortunately, my computer went down before I could finish my last post, so I had to stop short of really finishing the covers.  If you missed it and would like to see how I altered them, you can click here for the tutorial. Check out How to Make Mixed Media Book Covers Part 2 by Barbara Rankin on Snapguide . Here are the fairy quotes I found online, which I computer-generated and fussy cut to use on my pages. "Where there is Joy, Laughter and Colour, Fairies will be found!" "A rustle in the wind reminds us a fairy is near." "Garden fairies

ALTERED Composition Journal

I sure hope everyone on the team is having as much fun as I am with the products we received from our partner DecoArt this month!!!  The products are high quality and clean up is a snap with soap and water! Today I have altered a Composition Journal!  First, I covered the book front and back with gesso. I love starting with gesso when a book has a smooth shiny surface. The gesso gives the paint something to hold onto! Let it completely dry. Then with the DecoArt DecouPage I added an interesting Vintage Text - Dictionary Page , making sure to get out all of the bubbles. Once the page was dry I added some texture here with DecoArt   Modeling Paste and Punchinella  on the front and back.   Let it dry thoroughly. Once dry, start painting with Media Fluid Acrylics:  Primary Magenta, Antiquing Cream and Cadmium Red Hue and Glamour Dust Ultra Fine Glitter Paint: Celebration Pink. Leave interesting areas of the text unpainted.  For more texture and contrast
