You Browse Department Stores. Why Not Altered Pages?

Okay, we've all been there! Finishing up a project, and realizing that you need just the perfect little something-or-other to complete it. That's the great thing about having gone shopping at Altered Pages and stocked up on things that just seem interesting and fun at the time, with no immediate purpose in mind.

As I was working on the Vintage White theme tag above for a swap group in which I participate, so I found some silk flowers (that I deconstructed!) and a lovely image of a woman all dressed for the snow, which I attached to an acrylic pendant with Sakura 3D lacquer. I also used a very thin layer of the Sakura 3D lacquer to hold down the antique embroidered wedding veil - it holds strongly and clear! These were all things that I had purchased on whim at Altered Pages, and was so happy to find in my supply closet.

Then I was finishing up my Rusted them project for this month's Altered Pages Challenge, and realized that I still needed something to add to the Christmas-y aspect. So I found a stash of Altered Pages bottle caps (I know, I could find old bottle caps out in the street - but aren't you always sure a dog has pee'd on them before you pick them up? LOL), a wonderful Santa image from an Altered Pages collage sheet which I cut out the perfect size for the bottle cap with the bottle cap image die, which works in almost all die-cutting systems (I use it in both my BigKick and my Vagabond). It works especially well with the magnetic cutting stack available at Altered Pages, which keeps the die exactly where you want it on your image! Then I used Sakura 3D lacquer to layer over the image (even though it's not clear in the photo, it's beautiful in person!).

So, don't wait until you need a product immediately and you're on a search to go supply shopping! Take an hour and browse through the many pages of products and collage images and just pick and choose from stuff that seems like it would be good to have on hand - you'll be glad you have it when you need it for that perfect finishing touch on your project!

Handy Tip for Artists, Recyclers and Neat Freaks! I have a follow-up to the Citra-Sol method for creating fabulous background pages and collages.   I bought a big bag of navel oranges and realized I had the ingredients to make my own solvent!   Simply take a clean glass jar, peel the rind from the oranges and place all the rind/peels, without the pulp (tangerines, oranges, navels) into the jar.   Pour enough vinegar over the peels to cover them.    Allow the jar to sit for a week or two and VOILA!     You have made your own solvent for literally pennies.    You will notice the liquid getting a bit thicker than the plain vinegar and it does not smell bad!!! I now have a  HUGE jar on the window sill!       Be careful and only use this after testing on a safe spot.
