Feature Artist ~ Cindy Kovack

Altered Pages is honored to share with you the TALENTED CINDY KOVACK Cindy is a mixed media artist living in Phoenix, AZ.   She’s had a passion to create from childhood. Coming from a large, economically challenged household, she lacked funds for her creative projects. She’d hike to the local dump and salvage reclaimed parts and pieces for her art.   She’s a self-taught artist who learned to paint with house paint and model airplane brushes. She has since fused her love of paint, collage and upcycling into a way of life. Shortly after her late husband’s death, she found she was able to channel her grief into her art. To this day she uses her creativity as a form of meditation. Cindy is a published artist who has taught painting, drawing and varied mixed media techniques throughout her career at seminars, educational facilities, galleries, local shops and retreats. Mixed Media Artist: Oil, Acrylic, Watercolor, Gouache, Encaustic Wax, Collage, Upcycled Assemblage ...

Loving these vibrant Pan Pastels!

Hi everyone!  It's a beautiful early fall day here in Michigan and I'm waiting for the leaves to start turning into the gorgeous fall golds, reds and shades of brown that we all love here in "the Mitten".  I love all the brightly colored foliage and I can't imagine a prettier place to live this time of year.  When I first learned about pastels many years ago I ran out and bought a set of pencils.  They're fun to use but the colors in that set were very muted, much like my chalks.  So all of the talk about Pan Pastels really didn't grab my attention.  I didn't expect to get such vibrant reds and yellows as I did on this project!  I had fun with my first card earlier this month but I only used two colors on it and didn't really get to see how wonderfully they blend.  I sure found out this time! Altered Pages has a collage sheet of beautiful coffee images and I chose one with lovely red, green and yellow in it off the We All Enjo...

halos, highlights, and Halloween with Pan Pastels

Have you seen the amazing "paintings" that people do with Pan Pastels ?  They're fabulous.  But you won't see one in this post--waaaaaayyyyy beyond me!  However, I still REALLY like these pastels, and am having a great time incorporating them into my creations.   One of the things I tend to "do" is halo, or highlight, around people or words, sometimes with gold paint, but most commonly with white crayon.  However, I'm seriously considering trading in the white crayon permanently . . . Let me show you some before and after photos.  Here is an atc I did a while back, the background is a collage of papers from a Vintage Text Pages Pack , paint, etc.  Around the stitched heart is a subtle halo/highlight of white crayon.                                                                 ...

For the Love of Coffee

Hi Everyone, Danie here with you today, back sharing another one of my plays with Pan Pastels. I mentioned in my last post that I had been sick, during which time I was avoiding drinking coffee as it was making me cough more. Now I am a little better and back enjoying my coffee I decided to dedicate a page in my art journal to my love of this beautiful beverage.  My starting inspiration for my background was my favorite coffee cup.  You can see my oversized coffee mug in the video I made showing the creation of this page.     For this page I have used the Exploring Mixed Media No 1 Set of Pan Pastels and the color Violet. Stamps from Alice's Mad Tea Party Kit from Mailbox Muse, Altered Pages Art Stamps, Collage Image from Good Morning Collage Sheet. Versafine Black Ink, Memento Markers. You can also see on the other page I have been coloring some book pages with Violet Pan Pastels and using this paper to die cut some flowers.  Just another way y...
