Sundays in Arizona

AlteredPages is based in Arizona.   As some know I purchased the business almost 2 years ago.   We've come a long way since then.   We sold only collages and a few other small  items.   We still love collages and sell them as a backbone of AlteredPages.  We are about to embark on a new journey adding another facet to AlteredPages, soon to be officially announced.   Stay tuned!  I thought it was time to share details about Life in Arizona, what it's like to own the business and just chat about life in general.   So often all we see is ads and sales and contests and there is more to life than that.   I like to know people and make things a bit more personal.   It's not just the finished art project but what led the person to make it, what the inspiration was and the thinking behind it.    Maybe we can all get to know each other a little better, feel free to comment about your life, your ...

There's A Whole Lot of Spookiness Going On At Altered Pages

I love Halloween.  In the area where I live the nights are cool and often rainy.  Once the sun sets it gets really dark.  A fitting backdrop for any good horror movie.  I love those, too!  Altered Pages is perfect for helping with my love of Halloween with all of the Halloween dies, embossing folders  and fabulous collage sheets such as the ones ( Altered Halloween AP 1858 & Fall Fantasy AP 2175 ) I've used on this Halloween slider card. There's nothing better than a card that says, "Boo!" and since Halloween is full of spooky surprises what better way to say it than this card that slides out to reveal its shocking message.  The next time you want to give someone a scare check out all of the Halloween items from Altered Pages!  You'll have a scaringly good time looking through the website.      Remember to join the Altered Pages Design Team for our Fall & Halloween Blog Hop this...

Transparencies in Altered Art

One of the perks about being on a design team is getting the chance to test drive some goodies from time to time. Occasionally we will have some new items in the store to play with in order to entice you to buy them too! I always love this part of my job because normally I am extremely excited about the new product and already have a dozen or more projects floating around in my head. Normally.  A few weeks back I was sent these Peek-A-Boos from Glitz. Immediately I thought awesome! These will be so much fun...Large printed transparencies with vintage images how cool, right? Then I tried working them into my art. One here, one there...but I was having a problem with how "shiny" and "new" they looked in my otherwise altered vintagey art. I mean, everything else on the album or ATC or canvas was grunged up and shabby chic'd but this was just glaring out at me. Fast forward to this weeks project.  So I wanted to do something out of the ordinary ...

Hand stitched notebook

Hi Katrina here from England. I love to make my own books and a hand stitched book is a quick and easy way to bind your own book. They can  be any size and any thickness. For this book I  just cut some normal everyday copy paper into 4 and then added a card stock front and back. I used a hole punch to punch 4 holes through all the pages and covers and then stitched them all together with some garden twine. I then used the Altered Pages collage sheet Travelogue to collage the front and back and then the cute little index card to make a pocket on the inside cover. Stitched bound books open flat so they are great to write in and you can bind then with everything from twine and strings, fluffy fibres and off cuts of knitting wool to colourful ribbon and even strips of material. All these will give you different looks, so many looks to try and play with, have a go yourself, I am sure there is a collage sheet from Altered pages to fit you theme if this one is not you...

An Angel Calling...another journal page & technique

Hi all! Becky here today to share another journal page with you & a rather happy accident-technique I came up with... I started by applying Heavy Body Acrylic paint in Titan Buff; & adhering along the side strips of handmade paper with music notes (found at a local art supply, before realizing the Tim Holtz tissue tape would have worked too!). Then I knew I wanted to use some modeling paste with a scroll stamp along the other edge...so I grabbed my bottle & started spreading it on before I realized that it was CRACKLE PASTE ! Oh well, just go with it...There are no mistakes in art, right?!  Well, the effect was AWESOME so I just kept adding my layers! before & after paint When the paste was dry, I applied a wash of Antelope Brown Acrylic Ink, blotting here & there with a towel; let dry. Then another wash of Acrylic Ink in Burnt Umber, blotting again. After those layers were dry, I rubbed in Heavy Body paint in "Parchment", then a lit...

Paper and Ribbon and Feathers...oh MY...what a Beautiful Witch Hat!

Welcome to Altered Pages and I hope you are enjoying your Sunday! Susan here to share my Halloween type of headdress made of paper, ribbons, feathers and bling. Are you playing along with Altered Pages first " Alter Your Creativity " Headdress Challenge? There's still time. On Every Second Monday of the Month we plan to bring you a new Challenge to encourage you to step a little out of your comfort zone and " Alter Your Creativity ". Each Challenge will run until the last day of the Month and the Design Team will vote to pick an overall Winner and a Top 3. My paper hat is adorned with feathers and a beaded gem spider! The great thing about altered arts is that everything and anything can be used for creating. I created a simple paper hat form finished with a rim with a pretty sheet of patterned paper. I really love the "Fascinator" style headpieces - so I created my own to adorn my witch hat. WOW! Now this will be so fun to wear...

Hey everyone, Kelli here today with a Halloween tag for you!   Today I took one image from the Black and Sepia collage sheet AP-2023 if your searching for it! I made the image into 4 sizes just by resizing it. If I would have thought about it I would have written down the sizes I used but I didn't! sorry.  There is more info about this cute little tag on my Blog !   Hope you enjoy!

Fall Decor Casting A Glow !!

Hi everyone ! Eunice here ! I have a super quick little fall decor item for you to make for yourself or as a quick little gift for someone special ! I have a collection of vintage jars , but you could use any jar that has a mouth large enough to fit a battery operated candle in ! I love the battery operated candles you can purchase now , especially the ones that come on everyday at a certain time  ! So you can have the glow , without the danger of a flame ! I created a tag to hang on the jar using the tags from Altered Pages  ! And in keeping with quick... I used paper from the Glitz paper pack , Yours Truly  ! Loved the distressed red paper , so I just glued it on , how easy is that ? No paint or ink !! I did stamp a fall stamp on the background and inked the edges ( cant help myself !  ) then  I used the new cork self adhesive sheets and cut out the letters for FALL !  So how easy is that too ? Just stick them letters on the tag and you are ...

Graphite Enhanced Image Transfer Technique

Happy Day Everyone!   Roni here with a fun new technique for you all to try.... Graphite Enhanced Image Transfer !   This is something I came up with while experimenting with Orange Oil Image Transfers . It's a fun way to get the hand drawn/sketch look without having to have one stitch of drawing ability!     Instructions:   Print out your desired collage image in black and white on plain copy paper and trim. I used images from the following collage sheets: Edgar Allen Poe - AP1552 ; Poe's Raven - AP1820 ; Vintage Vampires AP1817 .   Transfer the image to your cardstock using the Orange Oil Image Transfer Technique (place the image on your cardstock, saturate with Orange Oil Cleaner, burnish with a bone folder and ta daaa your image has been transfered)   Let the transferred image dry completely.  This is a must...if you move onto the next step too soon you will tear your image to bits.   Now take a ...

Alter Your Creativity with Altered Pages Challenges

We are excited to announce our very first Alter Your Creativity Challenge at Altered Pages. On Every Second Monday of the Month we plan to bring you a new Challenge to encourage you to step a little out of your comfort zone and Alter your Creativity.  Each Challenge will run until the last day of the Month and the Design Team will vote to pick an overall Winner and a Top 3. Last month Jean set the Design Team a Challenge to design a headdress.  She offered the following images to the team as inspiration.         To put it simply a headdress/headpiece is any item of clothing that adorns the head, it might be a crown, a helmet or simply a scarf embellished with jewels or feathers.  The only limit I guess as they say is your imagination. The Design Team have excelled themselves for this challenge and will inspire you to play along with this month's challenge theme which is to Design a Headdress, we also want you to vote for your favorite ...

Follow Your Dreams Altered Page Pocket

I have been enjoying creating altered books recently and started working on one centered around following your dreams.  I created this pocket to add to one of the pages of the book.  Altered Pages carries so many things that fit perfectly into this theme that it made it easy to create this.  I started by choosing one of the library cards and pockets and adding some of the French Kiss patterned paper by Glitz to cover the tag and pocket. I placed the saying by Henry David Thoreau from the What-Nots Embellishment Collection by Glitz  on the tag a little off center and snipped off the edges that overhung it and inked the edges.  I placed 2 French Vanilla Flowers on it and tied 2 pieces of embroidery floss in bows to create the flower centers.  I included the ticket , banner and word "dream" to it and the finished it off by adding a couple of pictures from the Train Travel Days (ap2165 ) Collage Sheet to the pocket.  It makes the pe...

It's almost here!

Halloween, that is. It's my favorite holiday by far, with Samhain and Day of the Dead, the thinning of the veil between worlds, what is not to love? Altered Pages had some sweet coffins and I grabbed a few. Anything creepy or macabre and I'm all over it. These fit the bill perfectly. I'm just starting the altering since I only received them yesterday. I started with some burgundy Lumiere paint on the outside and some gold Lumiere on the inside. One more coat of each and my coffin will be ready to embellish. Now...how to add to it. I know Altered Pages has great skull beads that might look just right along the edge of the lid. There are also a lot of creepy Halloween collage sheets that would definitely add some scare to my coffin. Maybe put Edgar Allen Poe the inside of the coffin. And in case you didn't see, Altered Pages has some great wood items for altering. Check them out here: http://www.alteredpages.com/shop/Wood.htm . Can't you picture those little h...
