Masquerade

Aloha, Gia here on Day 17 of the 31 Days of Halloween Blog Hop! I have a little shadow box collage I called Masquerade to share with you. My sweet circus elephant is on his way to a Masquerade Party and he is just tickled because he is certain NOBODY will recognize him in his disguise! Isn't that half the fun of dressing up for Halloween? (The other half is of course...candy!)

I started with a shallow wooden box from one of my thrift store hauls. I did some manipulating of a Smeared Ink digital stamp (Circus Procession) in my photo editing software to isolate the elephant on the bicycle and printed it out in sepia tones for a vintage look. Then I had some fun creating his disguise with my Altered Pages collage Perfect Party Hats. I layered my image on top of some of the wonderful Graphic 45 papers that are stocked on the Altered Pages web site. Altered Pages has so many treasures for making shadow boxes and assemblages- if you haven't browsed yet make sure you check out Embellishments including Ephemera Treasure Packs, Buttons and Doo Dads, and Glitter Assortments.

Have a great time enjoying the Halloween festivities in your neck of the woods. If you run into my friend the elephant, at least pretend you don't know who it is! -xoGia

Yes, dressing up is as much fun as the candy. Maybe more so as one gets older.

Handy Tip for Artists, Recyclers and Neat Freaks! I have a follow-up to the Citra-Sol method for creating fabulous background pages and collages.   I bought a big bag of navel oranges and realized I had the ingredients to make my own solvent!   Simply take a clean glass jar, peel the rind from the oranges and place all the rind/peels, without the pulp (tangerines, oranges, navels) into the jar.   Pour enough vinegar over the peels to cover them.    Allow the jar to sit for a week or two and VOILA!     You have made your own solvent for literally pennies.    You will notice the liquid getting a bit thicker than the plain vinegar and it does not smell bad!!! I now have a  HUGE jar on the window sill!       Be careful and only use this after testing on a safe spot.
