Altered Cigar Box with Sabor Papers!

Hello and happy Friday!

No April Fool's here...we promise April is going to be an amazing month at Altered Pages
We are very proud to be carrying the full line of beautiful papers from SABOR Papel.  All this month we will be featuring projects made with this heavy weight, high quality and richly colored paper.

For my first project of the month I am altering a cigar box to contain all the fun things I plan to work on later.
I love having things all in one place.  All of my fussy cut images, ribbons, rhinestones and Dew Drops will store perfectly in this cute little treasure box ready for when the mood strikes to continue on with this addictive paper.

I started by using the Enamorado  and  Ramitos  12 x 12 papers to cover the inside of the box.  I began with measuring the size of paper I was going to need to cover the inside top and bottom of the cigar box.  And, I definitely employed the measure twice, cut once rule here.  I did not want to waste a single scrap of this gorgeous paper.  I used Aleens Tacky Glue to decoupage the paper on the inside of the box.  I then added a couple of the fun cutouts from the Sentimentios Amor  12 x 12 sheet and adhered that down in the same fashion.  As the inside was drying I used E6000 and added large, flat, turquoise glass marbles to the bottom corners of the box to act as little decorative feet.  I let this dry for a few hours before proceeding.

Next, I cut out one of the larger images from the same Sentimentios Amor  paper. I just love the bride and groom.  I adhered it with the Tacky Glue as well.  I wanted to give it just a little something extra so I added, to the four corners of the bride and groom image, a few turquoise sequins and yellow Dew Drops.

I then added some light and airy black ribbon  around the entire outer edge of the top of the cigar box.  Again, I used the Tacky Glue for this.  You can see in the picture above just under the crystal that I added another image to the front of the box that I fussy cut from the Amore cutouts  from SABOR.  Such cute little doves.  Next came the crystal that I added to the lock.  And, that was it.  The hardest part was letting it sit still for a couple hours to dry before wanting to fill it full of fun little pretties.
Do yourself a favor and pick up the
Sabor line of papers from Altered Pages.
Then, be sure to share with us your projects on Facebook using the hashtag  #AlteredPagesSabor.
We would love to see what you dream up!

Handy Tip for Artists, Recyclers and Neat Freaks! I have a follow-up to the Citra-Sol method for creating fabulous background pages and collages.   I bought a big bag of navel oranges and realized I had the ingredients to make my own solvent!   Simply take a clean glass jar, peel the rind from the oranges and place all the rind/peels, without the pulp (tangerines, oranges, navels) into the jar.   Pour enough vinegar over the peels to cover them.    Allow the jar to sit for a week or two and VOILA!     You have made your own solvent for literally pennies.    You will notice the liquid getting a bit thicker than the plain vinegar and it does not smell bad!!! I now have a  HUGE jar on the window sill!       Be careful and only use this after testing on a safe spot.
